Our Story

About.

Two dojos, five disciplines, one standard of excellence.

Meiji Martial Arts is a premier martial arts academy with two London locations — Temple Fortune and St Johns Wood. Founded and led by Sensei Denise Bailey, a 7th Dan World and European Champion, we have been at the heart of the London martial arts community for decades, providing world-class instruction across five core disciplines: Kickboxing, Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), Judo, Krav Maga, and MMA.

Our programmes are designed for everyone — from children as young as four taking their first steps on the mat, to teenagers building confidence and discipline, to adults seeking fitness, self-defence, or competitive pathways. We also run six dedicated combat-inspired fitness classes where no experience or uniform is required — just turn up and train.

What sets Meiji apart is our commitment to quality and community. Every instructor is a specialist in their discipline, many holding international championship titles and decades of teaching experience. We believe martial arts transform lives — building not just physical strength but mental resilience, respect, and a sense of belonging. Our dojos are welcoming, safe spaces where beginners train alongside elite athletes, and every student is supported to reach their own potential.

Meiji Martial Arts is proudly independent and family-run. The dojo was built from the ground up by people who live and breathe martial arts. Our team includes national and international champions, master instructors, and dedicated coaches who have grown up within the Meiji system themselves. We are not a franchise or a gym chain — we are a genuine martial arts club with deep roots in the communities we serve.
